Workout tracker app: log every set and keep progressing

Elvyfit is a workout tracker app that saves the weight, reps and RIR of every set, shows how you are doing against your last session and suggests the load for next time. It runs on iPhone and Android, and the full logger is on the free plan.

What a workout tracker app should save for each set

Good logging leaves you a history you can still read in a month, and one the app can use to decide what comes next. Elvyfit keeps it quick enough to fill in between sets.

While you train, every set is colored against your previous session: more weight or more reps, less, or the same. You see your progress as it happens instead of digging through old notes.

  • Weight and reps

The basics of every set, quick to enter between one set and the next.

  • Optional RIR

Reps in reserve: 0, 1, 2 or 3 or more. Leave it blank if you would rather not use it.

  • RPE and partials

You can also note your perceived effort and any partial reps.

  • Real rest

The app stores how long you actually rested, not only what was planned.

Set types: not every set counts the same

Tagging the set type keeps a warm up from messing up your stats. Warm up sets do not count toward progression, ranks or records. The other types simply describe how you worked that day.

Set types you can tag
TypeWhat you use it for
NormalYour usual working set.
Warm upLight ramp up sets before the working sets. They do not score.
Top setThe main, hardest set of the exercise.
Back offSets with less weight after the top set.
Third setThe extra set when the plan asks for three.
Drop setYou lower the weight and keep going without rest.
To failureA set taken until another rep will not come.

Progressive overload: what the code decides and how

Progressive overload means asking the muscle for a little more over time. In Elvyfit a language model does not decide it. The code calculates it with fixed rules, reading your last top set. For the wider concept, see our guide to progressive overload.

The rule is simple. If your last top set was 9 reps or more, the app suggests adding weight: 2.5 kilos for upper body and barbell lifts, 5 kilos for legs. If you did not get there, it suggests one more rep, or two if you are a beginner. When a lift stalls, the weight does not drop by itself. The app offers an optional deload week, and you decide.

If you use RIR to gauge how much you have left in the tank, we explain it with examples in the article on what RIR means in training.

The app suggests, you decide. It never lowers your weight on its own.

Rest timer with lock screen alerts and Dynamic Island

The code suggests a rest period based on the type of exercise: 150 to 180 seconds on compound lifts, 120 seconds on adduction, abduction and calf work, and 90 to 150 seconds on abs.

When the timer ends, you get an alert. On iPhone, a Live Activity appears on the lock screen and, with iOS 17 or later, in the Dynamic Island, with buttons to add 15 seconds or skip the rest. On Android you get a notification with a stopwatch. There is also an optional system voice. To fine tune your timing, read how long to rest between sets.

Estimated one rep max and strength ranks

Your estimated one rep max, the theoretical heaviest load for a single rep, comes from the Epley formula with reps capped at 12 so the estimate does not run away. It is an estimate, not a max test.

That number feeds your ranks. The scale has 18 levels: Iron, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum and Diamond, each in III, II and I. They come from a percentile of your estimated one rep max divided by your lean mass, using your best mark from the last 12 weeks. They stay provisional until you have 2 top sets in different weeks. There are 8 muscle groups with a rank, and the figure draws 16 muscles that inherit the rank of their group. Without verification, the highest public rank is Gold I. You can see the full map in progress tracking.

Projecting your one rep max toward a milestone, with a range and a confidence level, is a Plus plan feature.

Exercise library, editor and import from Hevy and Strong

The library holds 164 exercises: 94 isolation and 70 compound, with barbell, dumbbell, machine, cable and bodyweight options. 91 of them have a looping animation, and the rest have a poster image. The app labels the animations as AI generated illustration. Every exercise comes with cues and common mistakes.

The routine editor is free: swap an exercise (there are 5 or more variants per slot), add or remove sets, reorder, or build your own routine. Saving creates a new version and your history stays untouched. To see how your starting routine is born, look at how personalized gym routines are built.

If you are coming from another app, you can import your workouts as CSV from Hevy or Strong. The app detects the format and converts pounds to kilos.

What to know before you start

If you lose signal at the gym, your set log is saved on your phone and syncs when the connection returns. The Elvy chat and the rankings do need a connection.

Elvyfit is not a medical device. If a niggle holds you back, the discomfort map has 8 zones and suggests lowering the load by 15%, swapping in a variant or excluding the exercise temporarily, always with your approval. If pain persists, talk to a healthcare professional.

The full logger, overload and ranks are on the Free plan. One rep max projection and video technique analysis (6 per month, clips up to 45 seconds) are Plus. We lay it out on the plans and pricing page. For now the app is available in Spanish only.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best app to track gym workouts?

Elvyfit lets you log weight, reps, RIR, RPE and real rest for each set, with set types and a color comparison against your last session. The full logger is on the Free plan. It is available for iPhone and Android.

How does the app decide how much weight to add?

The code decides with fixed rules, not a language model. It looks at your last top set: with 9 reps or more it suggests adding 2.5 kilos (5 for legs), and if not, one more rep, or two if you are a beginner.

Do warm up sets count toward my records?

No. Warm up sets do not count toward progression, ranks or records, so you can log them without changing your stats. Just tag the set as a warm up.

Can I import my history from Hevy or Strong?

Yes, from a CSV file. The app detects the format, converts pounds to kilos and saves anything it does not recognize as a custom exercise. You can import 10 workouts per day.

Does the rest timer work with the screen locked?

Yes. On iPhone it uses a Live Activity on the lock screen and, with iOS 17 or later, in the Dynamic Island. On Android it shows a notification with a stopwatch. It alerts you when the rest is over.

Is the app available in English?

Not yet. The app is only in Spanish for now, even if your phone is set to another language. This website is in English so you can see what the app does before you download it.
