Muscle building app: the Ganar músculo goal

Building muscle comes down to three things an app can actually organize: training with enough volume, adding load little by little and eating a bit above your energy use. Here is how the Ganar músculo goal in Elvyfit works, what the code calculates and what nobody can promise you.

See pricing The app itself is in Spanish for now.

Illustrative example

What the Ganar músculo goal is

Ganar músculo (build muscle, as the app is in Spanish) is one of the four goals in Elvyfit. It combines a light calorie surplus, 150 to 300 kcal above your energy use, with a strength routine that spreads volume across muscle groups and progresses week by week.

It is a hypertrophy approach without shortcuts: little magic and a lot of well logged repetition. The code builds the plan with rules based on evidence, and you bring the consistency.

How it really works: volume, top sets and back off sets

The routine is generated by code, not by a language model, so the same profile gets the same structure. Weekly volume per muscle group depends on your experience, and the way it is spread across days is covered on the page about personalized gym routines.

Weekly sets per muscle group by experience level
LevelSets per group per week
Beginner (under 1 year)10 to 12
Intermediate12 to 13
Advanced14 to 15

The main lifts get a top set of 6 to 8 reps close to failure, followed by back off sets of 8 to 10 reps with 10% less weight.

Progressive overload: how the app decides when to go up

Progressive overload is the engine: asking the muscle for a little more over time. Elvyfit reads your last top set and suggests the next step. With 9 or more reps, the weight goes up: 2.5 kg for upper body and barbell lifts, 5 kg for legs. If you fall short, it keeps the weight and asks for one more rep, or two if you are a beginner.

It never lowers your load on its own. If you stall, it suggests an optional deload week and you decide. Warm up sets do not count toward progression or records, and the estimated one rep max (1RM) uses the Epley formula with a cap of 12 reps. If you are unsure how much you have left in each set, what RIR means clears it up, and progressive overload goes deeper.

Ranks and the strength map: measuring progress beyond the scale

From your estimated 1RM, the app gives you a rank in 8 muscle groups: chest, back, legs, shoulders, biceps, triceps, abs and glutes. The scale has 18 levels, from Hierro (Iron) to Diamante (Diamond), each one in III, II and I.

The rank is calculated by percentile, from your 1RM divided by your lean mass, using your best mark from the last 12 weeks. It stays provisional until you have 2 top sets in different weeks. The body figure in progress tracking draws 16 muscles, and each one inherits the rank of its group.

Eating to grow: a light surplus and protein

Building muscle takes energy, but not a free for all. The code applies a surplus of 150 to 300 kcal and caps weight gain at 0.5% per week. Protein starts at 1.6 g per kg of body weight, fat rises to 0.5 g per kg when building and the rest is carbs.

How those numbers are produced is explained in the AI nutrition plan, and the protein amount has its own explanation in how much protein you need a day.

Recovery: muscle is built while you rest

The routine leaves 72 hours between sessions for the same muscle. The timer suggests 150 to 180 seconds of rest on compound lifts, with an alert when time is up and, on iPhone, a Live Activity on the lock screen.

If something hurts, you mark the area on a map of 8 zones: a mild issue lowers the load by 15%, a moderate one suggests a variation and a strong one excludes the exercise temporarily. You always approve the change. The recovery and volume maps are Plus features.

Honest limits when you are chasing muscle

There is no table of kilos or pounds per month here, because how much muscle you gain depends on your genetics, your age, your history, your sleep and your consistency. The app organizes the work, but it cannot assure you a result. Elvyfit is not a medical product and does not replace a professional.

If you have an injury, lasting pain or a medical condition, check with a professional before you train. Ranks are a relative scale meant to keep you motivated, not a diagnosis of your strength. And to log every set comfortably on the gym floor, see the gym workout app.

Frequently asked questions

How many sets per muscle per week does Elvyfit use?

It depends on your level: 10 to 12 sets per group per week for beginners, 12 to 13 for intermediates and 14 to 15 for advanced lifters. That is the volume the code spreads across your routine, and you can edit the routine afterward.

How big a calorie surplus do you need to build muscle?

Elvyfit applies a light surplus of 150 to 300 kcal over your energy use and limits weight gain to 0.5% of body weight per week. It is a careful approach that aims to build without piling on extra fat, although every body responds differently.

What does the Free plan include and what does Plus add for building muscle?

Free includes full workout logging with progressive overload and ranks, the routine editor and the basic diet. Plus adds the 1RM projection, the recovery and volume maps and five variants per meal. It costs €19.99 a month or €199.99 a year, with 7 days of trial without a card.

Does it work for beginners or if I train at home?

Yes. At the start you say how experienced you are, whether you train at a gym, at home or both, and what equipment you have. The code adapts exercises and volume to that. For beginners, progression asks for two more reps before adding weight, instead of one.

What should I do if a joint hurts while I train?

Mark it on the discomfort map. If it is mild, the load drops by 15%. If it is moderate, the app suggests a variation, and if it is strong, it excludes the exercise temporarily. Nothing changes until you approve it, and if the pain lasts, talk to a health professional.

How long will it take to build muscle with Elvyfit?

There is no timeline we can promise. Your pace depends on your genetics, your experience, your rest and your consistency. What the app does is show you your numbers, your progression and your ranks, so you can see whether you are moving forward instead of guessing.

Is the app available in English?

Not yet. The app is only in Spanish from Spain for now. The calculations and training rules are identical for all users, and this website is available in English so you can see how it works.
